Bohol is an island in the Central Visayas region that is home to some of the earliest Spanish churches in the Philippines. The dive industry is not very developed there, and as a result there are very few dive boats competing for space on the sites. There's a nice mix of walls and sandy/grassy dive spots.
The guide I dove with was new to the area, so when I found my first zebra crab (living symbiotically on a fire urchin), it was also a first for him. The feeling of original discovery, even though I've seen the species in books before, permeated that dive and the subsequent ones, and was enhanced by being a shared experience between the two of us.
